Hi
Just purchased a horstmann – the model with solid circular weight at the base. I think it is totally original, with aluminium arms (bare from new) and deep cream on the shade, weight and base. Your model looks as if it has a rougher finiash – but there’s not many pics of that model – more of the other with the ‘split’ weight. I have in mind to strip the cream parts so that the colour (metal) is more uniform and replace the old bulb holder with a cgrome switched unit, and new flex – black I think. Would you like a pic of the current lamp?

Hi Chris,
Please! I love all this sharing that is happening with projects!
I have been looking at that project with despair. I stripped the paint – which was actually very easy – but now have to sand it all down to get rid of the rust, and it is just too daunting at the moment, so am avoiding it.
Mine has the split weight, though I can’t seem to get it unscrewed to clean the rust off inside.
I think it will look pretty good once it is cleaned and sealed. You’ve probably already seen these shots from the summer:http://winstonsroost.wordpress.com/2011/10/03/hadrill-horstmann-restoration-part-1/
Wish I had one with one of the thinner shades (older ones), as I like the look better, but oh well…
